How to Source Clothing Manufacturing in Mexico: A Guide for Brands

Mexico has a large network of small and mid-size workshops that cut, sew, embroider and print apparel. For brands that want production closer to the U.S. and Canada, it can be an option worth testing. This guide covers the basic steps.

1. Prepare your tech pack

Workshops quote faster and more accurately when you send a clear package: sketches or photos, measurements by size, fabric type, trims, label placement and any decoration (embroidery, print). A reference garment helps a lot.

2. Find workshops

Use a directory such as Maquilando to search by service (cut and sew, embroidery, screen printing, pattern making) and by state. Contact several workshops, not just one.

3. Ask about the basics

  • What is the minimum order per style?
  • Do they work with your fabric or can they source it?
  • How long do samples and production take?
  • Can they send photos or video of the production floor?

4. Start with a sample

Approve a sample in your base size before placing a full order. Check stitching, measurements and finishing against your tech pack.

5. Plan logistics

Shipping, export paperwork and duties depend on your product and destination. Talk to a customs broker or freight forwarder before your first production order.

Every workshop has its own capacity, minimums and lead times, so treat any number you read online as a starting point and confirm it directly.

Ready to find a workshop? Browse the Maquilando directory or send a request through Request a quote (the form is in Spanish; a browser translator works well).
